Defense Layout Guide
A good Nova Roma defense layout keeps your city functioning while danger is happening. The goal is not to wall off every district blindly. It is to create road flow that lets workers keep moving, protect storage and production bottlenecks, and give emergency services a short path to the areas most likely to collapse under pressure.
Start by identifying which buildings would hurt the city most if disrupted: warehouses, food processing, and the roads linking those systems. Defensive structures should be arranged to slow attacks before they reach that core, not scattered evenly around every edge tile. If you defend everything equally, you usually defend nothing especially well.
Keep at least one clean internal road behind your outer defensive layer. That road is what allows hauling, repairs, and emergency response to continue when the perimeter is busy. Also avoid trapping warehouses behind decorative dead ends. A city that is technically safe but logistically frozen still loses momentum.
Finally, space districts so a single breach does not hit food, trade, and housing all at once. Small buffers and deliberate choke lanes give you time to react without sacrificing your long-term economy.
If a defensive choice slows your core transport loops more than it reduces threat, it is probably the wrong choice. Nova Roma defense works best when logistics and security reinforce each other.
